OPPOSITION ONE’S OWN / SOMEBODY ELSE’S IN THE CONTEXT OF TABLE MANNERS OF THE KOMIS (ZYRIANS)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the rules of eating and table manners in the traditional culture of the Komis (Zyrians). The strictly regulated standards of everyday tradition were a measure of the determination of a society member’s belonging to a certain community, and their precise performance was understood as a feature of own culture. The violation of table manners was considered as an indication of foreign culture and implied otherness, which was inadmissible and punishable.
