THE GREEK REVOLT OF 1821-1832 IN THE BRITISH PRESS AND RUSSOPHOBIA

Abstract. The author considers the situation when in the first half of the XIX century, after a series of past wars, the formation of a new system of international relations and the creation of the Holy Alliance, serious confrontation between the two empires - the British and Russian ones - began. The article shows that the instrument of the UK struggle with the influence of the Russian Empire was the propaganda of its negative image in the British press. The extensive anti-Russian controversy developed in the British newspapers and periodicals during the period from 1815 till 1832 at the height of the Greek revolt proves it.
