EVOLUTION OF MISSIONARY ACTIVITY OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN THE 80-90S OF THE XIX CENTURY (BY THE EXAMPLE OF KHAKASS-MINUSINSK TERRITORY)

Abstract. The article considers the missionary activity of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 60-90s of the XIX century - the period when the process of the formal conversion of the non-Russian peoples of the Russian Empire into Orthodoxy was finished. The aim of the article is to analyze the evolution of the forms, methods and results of indigenous peoples’ Christianization in Siberia by the example of Khakass-Minusinsk territory. The author characterizes the process of missionary congregations formation that became the main form of the expansion and strengthening of Orthodoxy among the Khakass - the indigenous population of the region - in the south of Yenisei eparchy.
