ABOUT SOME TOPONYMS OF THE ALAZANI VALLEY OF THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES (IN THE LIGHT OF ANTIQUE AND ANCIENT SOURCES)

Abstract. The article examines the Alazani valley toponyms that have a great value in the study of the historical past of the peoples living in the region. On the basis of the toponymic material the author gives the etymology of some toponyms, reveals the geography of their spread. The paper discusses ancient sources that mention these toponyms. In particular, it is noted that among palaeo-toponyms functioning in the system of the Alazani valley toponyms there are elements relating to the different tiers of the languages ??of the Daghestani-Nakh group of peoples.
