Abstract. The article considers the conditions and reasons of the formation of Upper-Yazva (Obvinsk) Hermitage in Perm region at the end of the XVII century and its closing at the end of the XVIII century reflecting both the all-Russian processes and local features. The author traces the role of church legends, which have not only preserved stories about a miraculous icon and the history of the cloister foundation in the historical memory of the community, but have also become a factor for its revival at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries and in the 1990s.
