"COGNIZE YOURSELF": DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND ETHNOGRAPHY OF KAZAN IMPERIAL UNIVERSITY

Abstract. The article basing on archival materials reveals the history of ethnographic knowledge development in Kazan University. The author considers the basic directions of the Geography and Ethnography Department activity, in the first place, the activity of P. I. Krotov and B. F. Adler in training ethnographers and their contribution to the development of ethnography at Kazan University. A separate plot is devoted to the accumulation of the collections of the Ethnographic Museum and to the role of P. I. Krotov in acquiring a collection from the funds of Umlyauff, as well as the activity of B. F. Adler as a major museologist.
