Abstract. The article considers the conception of the rational ethics of the Russian scientist, biologist I. I. Mechnikov from the perspective of realistic worldview. Realism is positioned as such a state of mind that requires the objective study of reality in order to identify the practical value of any knowledge. By the example of Mechnikov the author presents an idea that the theories of natural scientists based on the principles of realism - connection between theory and practice, experimentally substantiated data - are timeless and still relevant.
