Abstract. The article is devoted to analyzing the legend about lost tribes of Israel in the context of the basic conception of the theoreticians of information and post-modernist society - the conception of Text. The paper analyzes how, adding their own connotations and interpretations into the biblical basis of the legend, the authors of prophetic writings, Talmud scholars, the translators of the Bible, the historians of the epoch of Hellenism and the early Roman period and, finally, the Jewish mediaeval travellers by joint efforts created the global Text of the legend about ten tribes.
