PATRIOTISM AS SOCIAL PHENOMENON: ESSENCE AND SPECIFICS

Abstract. The article is devoted to investigating patriotism as a social phenomenon actualizing under modern conditions. The author examines the essence, specifics, value meanings of patriotism (as a spiritual and social principle characterizing the attitude of an individual to his/her country), its function in the modern Russian history. The paper justifies the thesis that modern patriotism can play an important role in the consolidation of peoples and the country, in the improvement of interethnic relations and spiritual space, in the formation of the powerful and prosperous Russian state.
