"KULAK" AS OBJECT OF SOCIAL POLICY IN 1928-1929: REPRESSIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL IDENTITY

Abstract. In the article the issue of the construction of social borders and the social and legal status of "kulaks" group is considered. The author grounds a proposition that in the tax legislation of 1928-1929 the characteristics of kulaks’ social identity and the mechanism of the selection of peasants, who formed this part of social space, were defined for the first time. The formation of the legislative base of mass repressions for the social status "kulak" is shown. The periodization of repressive policy at the end of the 1920s in respect of peasants, who were identified as "kulaks", is suggested and the peculiarity of the policy is revealed.
