UKRAINE ROLE AND PLACE IN EUROPE IN RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN GEO-POLITICIANS’ IDEAS

Abstract. The analysis of the Russian and Ukrainian researchers’ main geo-political approaches to Ukraine is conducted in the article. Attention is paid to the fact that, assessing Ukraine geo-political state, the Russian and Ukrainian authors assess Ukraine significance differently. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that, on the one hand, the fact of Ukraine geo-political state uniqueness is clear that is why its foreign-policy orientation is extremely important. On the other hand, as the research shows, such state doesn’t give Ukraine a possibility to become an independent player, but makes it a "hostage" of strong international actors’ interests.
