Abstract. The author considers the notion "literature" in the context of the comprehension, within the framework of the modern culture, of any systemic, conceptualized knowledge belonging to a certain tradition of the world description, which has a specific history of formation, as well as genre and stylistic features, interprets literariness as the basic form of knowledge event, and in accordance with it endows this term with social, political, ideological, economical and legal sense.
