Abstract. The author considers the question of the methodological foundations of modernization theory, as the initial epistemological position uses the theory of radical constructivism, presents the basic argumentation of this theory, substantiates the applicability of social cognition, basing on normative-interpretive approach presents alternative positions on the process of modernization, suggests their methodological synthesis.
