Abstract. The author discusses the symbolism of the dome that was used as an architectural form for centuries, considers the dome (vault) as an image filled with semiotic content, which is conditioned, in its turn, by the manifestation of collective unconscious archetypes in the mental field of a particular era, and tells that the most important role in the process of architectural objects perception is given to the reception of such fundamental concepts as God, the Universe, the One, the Infinite, the Eternal.
