Abstract. The author for the first time publishes the fragment of census book of 1678, which describes the townspeople yards of Galich city, in comments to the source draws readers’ attention to changes in the social-economic life of townspeople that occurred as a result of serfdom approval, and makes an assumption about the origin of new craft villages in Galich in the third quarter of the XVII th century, where "brick-makers" lived.
