Abstract. The author studies the functions of Tobol'sk province police on ensuring public safety at the last third of the XIX th – the beginning of the XX th century, researches the aspects of the normative-legal framework of police functioning in the area of cooperation with the gendarmerie, analyzes specific episodes of this activity, and conducts the research basing on the materials, for the first time introduced into scientific circulation.
