CONSERVATIVE-TRADITIONALIST AND LIBERAL VIEWS IN DEBATE ON CHURCH REFORM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX TH CENTURY

Abstract. The author considers the intra-Church debate of the beginning of the XX th century around the problem of reforming the Russian Orthodox Church in the context of the development of the religious doctrine of power, presents the analysis of prominent Church bishops’ views on the questions of the Patriarch election, the reforms of parish life, etc., and comes to the conclusion about the close relationship of Church government reformation attempt with the problems of reforming secular power in the Russian Empire.
