ANTHONY CARO AND NEW TRADITION PHENOMENON IN MODERN SCULPTURE HISTORY

Abstract. The author analyzes the creative works of the English sculptors group, known as the "new generation" of the 1960s, shows that the central figure in this context is Anthony Caro, one of the most famous masters of modern sculpture, describes the genesis of his artistic-plastic manner, its evolution and internal contradictions, analyzes the works of Caro’s pupils, the sculptors of the "new generation", in relation to the similar phenomenon that emerged in the 1960s – the American minimalism, and comes to the conclusions that are related to the determination of the English abstract sculpture identity of this period, to the formulation of the factor of continuity in the history of its origin and further development.
