VILLAGE SOCIAL EVOLUTION IN THE MIDDLE DESNA REGION OF THE XI TH-XVII TH CENTURIES: BY EXAMPLE OF LOPUSH' RURAL SETTLEMENT

Abstract. The author considers the process of the social-functional transformation of the Old Russian settlement in Lopush' village. During the period from the XI th till the XVII th century the settlement passed the way from the administrative, fiscal and religious center of the rural district – the churchyard – in the XI th-XIII th centuries till the possessory village during the Lithuanian period of the XIV th-XV th centuries, and the frontier post during the short period from Deulino truce in 1618 till the Russian-Polish war of the middle of the XVII th century. The transformation processes were reflected in the settlement topography, the features of the population material culture. The most significant stage of the development was the Old Russian period from the XI th till the XIII th century.
