Abstract. The author discusses one of the topical problems of social philosophy, concerning the theory of value, in particular the question of the specificity of values, ??their dual and contradictory essence; considers the dialectics of values ??that reveals the true meaning of human existence by analyzing value-oriented activity, and conducts this study basing on dialectical approach to the genesis of values, which considers value in the context of culture, within the framework of dichotomy "nature – culture".
