Abstract. The author considers various approaches to the phenomenon of tolerance, due to the absence of the clearly defined applicability of the term and the ambivalence of the phenomenon analyzes two major problems: the close relations of tolerance and patience, and also the determination of tolerance boundaries; tells that from the point of view of human responsibility in being, tolerance cannot simply be a willed non-reaction to a social stimulus, but must become a form of the conscious acceptance of "Another" and the way of the enrichment of "one’s own" at the expense of diversity and multiculturalism; and in the course of the research considers the phenomenon of tolerance from the perspective of readiness to dialogue.
