Abstract. The author suggests an original view on the aesthetic category of artistic image that is interpreted as a dissimilar similarity, creating the aura of object and revealing underlying expressive resources and content strata in it; introduces and develops the notion "Another author’s image", understood as a dislocated identity in the recreation of another artist’s traits in one’s own work, which allows avoiding the stereotype of this phenomenon interpretation as an imitation-stylization in art criticism analysis, and verifies the propositions of the article by the material of R. Schumann and N. A. Rimskii-Korsakov’s music.
