ALEXANDRIAN SCHOOL AND PRE-GALEN’S THEORY IN MEDICINE

Abstract. The article suggests evaluating the development of the Alexandrian school in the period from the III rd century BC till the I st century BC in a new way. For the first time the group of the historians in medicine of I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University conducted source analysis basing primarily on the works of Galen, which showed that the school was not as "uniform" as it is commonly presented in the national historiography. Different influence of Herophilos and Erasistratus’s works on the further development of the so-called "pre-Galen’s medicine" confirms this fact.
