Abstract. The article reveals the views of Russian poet and philosopher F. I. Tyutchev on the problem of civilization differences between the Russian and West European world. The author’s understanding of F. I. Tyutchev’s historiosophy as religious one is presented. The author comes to the conclusion that Tyutchev found the underlying reason of global differences between Russia and the West in the difference between the Christian confessions – Orthodoxy and Catholicism. However, the author suggests a critical look at Tyutchev’s view on the future of Russia and Europe, believing that Tyutchev underestimated the secularization of Orthodoxy in Imperial Russia.
