Abstract. The article concerns the correlation of two notions – "supporter" and "fan". It is stated that fans replaced supporters in the era of domestic football commercialization. The author substantiates the thesis that football for fans is not something valuable in itself but the means of certain goals achievement. The author supposes that the notion "supporter" will gradually leave our lives, giving way to the notion "football lover", which will be associated not with the aggressive opposition of one club to another, but with pleasure due to players’ mastery.
