POLITICAL POPULISM INFLUENCE ON SYRIZA’S SUCCESS IN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS OF 2012

Abstract. The article conducts the analysis of SYRIZA’s success in the parliamentary elections of 2012 in Greece. The research shows that political populism, used by the party in the course of the election campaign, is significantly different from the existing theoretical explanation of this phenomenon. The authors conclude that the top three international lenders (EC, ECB and IMF) can be considered as new foreign elite, which emergence extends the theoretical understanding of political populism.
