"SUPERSTITIO" AS PART OF RELIGIOUS PRACTICES OF ANCIENT ROMAN ARMY IN WARTIME

Abstract. The article considers superstitions existence on the battlefield in ancient Rome. Analyzing the data of sources (Tacitus, Livy, Rufus, Frontinus, Suetonius) and comparing them, the author concludes that superstitions were popular in wartime. Particular attention is paid to the psychological reasons of susceptibility to superstitions among combatants.
