"MARCH OLD WOMAN" IMAGE IN DAGESTAN PEOPLES’ MYTHOLOGIES

Abstract. The article describes one of the characters of former pagan pantheon – a certain period of time, between winter and spring, which in Dagestan peoples’ mythologies is personified in the image of "March old woman". Dagestan people associate with this period numerous tales and legends, proverbs, meteorological and agricultural signs. This image has broad parallels among other peoples of North Caucasus and the world. The authors believe that the image of "March old woman" is one of many roles of Great Mother Goddess transformed over time.
