JESUS’S IMAGE AND CHRISTIAN LEGENDS INTERPRETATION IN E.-E. SCHMITT’S NOVEL "THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO PILATE"

Abstract. The author, by the example of the French writer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s novel "The Gospel According to Pilate", considers the problems of biblical and evangelical texts interpretation in modern literature, pays special attention to the image of Jesus Christ, the history of his life and sacrificial heroism in the name of humanity, also analyzes the collisions related to the history of Pontius Pilate, and shows how sacral plot helps the writer turn to important contemporary problems.
