ON QUESTION OF REASONS OF CZECHOSLOVAK LEGION FORMATION IN RUSSIA (1914-1918) IN NATIVE AND CZECHOSLOVAK HISTORIOGRAPHY

Abstract. The author considers the influence of politics and ideology on historiography, and studies this problem by the example of the history of the Czechoslovak army creation in Russia in 1914-1918 and the subsequent interpretation of this fact in the Russian and Czechoslovak (Czech) historiography. The Czechoslovak historiography considered the voluntary Czechoslovak army as a revolutionary one, whose main goal was to fight for the creation of the Czechoslovak state. The Soviet historiography saw only the "former prisoners of war" in the Czechoslovak legionaries, whose actions were led by "bourgeois nationalists". Currently, there is the convergence of the national and Czech historiography approaches.
