Abstract. The author conducts the research of the history of the origin and development of criminal liability for illegal acts in bankruptcy in the legislation of the Russian Empire, and pays particular attention to the research of the normative consolidation and revelation of the major tendencies in the development of criminal liability for such offenses in legislative acts, beginning with the draft Statute about Bankrupts of 1740 and ending with the Criminal Code of 1903.
