Abstract. The author considers the questions of the reformation of educational process organization in Russian higher education establishments during the revolution of 1905-1907, pays special attention to the attempt to change the course (session) system for the subject one that gave students the right of independent educational trajectory development, and as the main reasons of the failure of this reform names both the insufficient reasoning of the transformations, which were conducted, and the lack of the readiness of educational administration and students to carry it out.
