Abstract. The author considers the meeting of the Modern Age thinkers with the doctrine of stoics under the conditions of the social and worldview crisis in Western Europe of the XVIIth century, and ascertains that in the situation of dramatic and independent worldview choice the Western intellectuals found the tool for the spiritual adaptation to the challenges of modern times in stoic ideas.
