COSSACKS IN CHUKCHI PENINSULA AT THE END OF THE XIXTH - THE BEGINNING OF THE XXTH CENTURY AND THEIR ROLE IN TRADE: HISTORICAL-ANTHROPOLOGICAL ASPECT

Abstract. The author presents the historical-anthropological research of Cossacks micro-groups, who lived in different places of Chukchi Peninsula at the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century, reconstructs some features of life and the way of life of those Cossacks, who temporarily served in the peninsula, and Cossack class representatives, who permanently lived in Chukchi Peninsula and were culturally integrated into local community, also analyzes the economic behaviour of Chukchi Cossacks, estimates their role in trade interrelations with indigenous population, and comes to the conclusion that the special conditions of the Far North-East including the need for the use of arctic peoples' cultural-economic experience in order to survive in severe conditions influenced the transformation of their economic behaviour and were one of the reasons of Cossacks involvement in trade.
