Abstract. The author reveals the aspects and functions of pain and painful experience, as well as their philosophical meaning in ritual actions, pays particular attention to the role of pain in desacralization processes, attributes pain to the space-time dimension of man in ritual, change in his corporality, and ritual space configuration, and considers modern society as a medicalized one, which is characterized by the sharp rejection of pain.
