WESTERN CAUCASUS PEOPLES' MIGRATION TO OTTOMAN EMPIRE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIXTH CENTURY: MAIN REASONS

Abstract. The author reveals the complex of the reasons of Western Caucasus peoples' mass migrations to the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the XIXth century, basing on archival sources for the first time determines the degree of religious factor influence on hill people migration, and discusses the question of Caucasian hill people's civilization perception of the Russian state and Russian ethnic group that is poorly studied by historians dealing with Caucasus.
