Abstract. The author considers the little-studied melodic improvisation phenomenon in the Udmurt ethnomusicology, studies the northern Udmurts' non-ritual improvisations - krez' (melodies), conducts the structural analysis of the melodies of the genre kurek''yas'kon krez' (mournful melodies) sung at different times by one performing dynasty representatives (mother and daughter), which reveals their common structural model forming the basis, and comes to the conclusion about canonical stereotypes existence in North-Udmurt performers' thinking.
