Abstract. The author considers peasant heads' activity within Trans-Baikal region at the beginning of the XXth century, recounts their rights and obligations, analyzes in detail peasant heads' clerical work on the basis of archival sources: imposed penalties registers, inspections materials, correspondence with volost administrations, and characterizes peasant heads' relations with superiors, peasant self-administration officials and villagers.
