Abstract. The authors reveal the economic and cultural foundations of Dagestan peoples' unity formation, consider defensive factor as a powerful stimulus of the mountaineers' consolidation, and pay special attention to Dagestan region formation within the Russian Empire, which contributed to Dagestan peoples' unity strengthening.
