Abstract. The author reveals the ideological-methodological position of the British analyst A. Lieven on the Russian-Chechen conflict study in the context of North Caucasus crisis dynamics and the positions of other American and British researchers of the Chechen war, and considers the British researcher's attitude to the conflict basic questions, such as the legitimacy of the Russian government activity, Islamic factor role, and the prospects for peaceful settlement.
