Abstract. The authors show that the epistemological problems of the notion knowledge are more complicated than it seems to ordinary consciousness beyond the philosophy of science. Numerous characteristics of knowledge can be summed up in its definition as a reasonable, universally valid, intersubjective system of signs. However, the philosophical theory of knowledge considers knowledge from wider point of view, which goes beyond the philosophy of science. There is a problem of knowledge attitude to the outside world or to human activity. Therefore, absolutely epistemological analysis of knowledge, from the authors' point of view, is not sufficient; it must include social-philosophical and cultural-anthropological aspects.
