Abstract. The author considers the requirements for fire departments location and organization within the cities of the Russian Empire in the second half of the XIX^th - the beginning of the XX^th century, and pays special attention to the significance of the professional approach to the projects development of new fire departments construction and old fire departments reconstruction in Russian cities.
