Abstract. The author presents the research of three ways of Chinese traditional painting -Guohua - development in the ХХth century, considers these courses - traditional, mixed, and experimental - by the example of major Chinese artists, many of whom are still little known in Russia, and undertakes the attempt to give the answer to one of the most critical questions in modern Chinese art history: Is traditional art undergoing degradation or developing?
