Abstract. The author presents the analysis of the fundamental metaphysical position essence underlying modern European thought, where being is understood as consciousness, and reveals the key characteristics of modern European mind arising from its mathematical character, namely: authenticity, anticipation, clarity, efficient and practical dimensions, which are substantiated in the science of Galileo, metaphysics of R. Descartes and G. W. Leibniz, tragic thought of W. Shakespeare.
