Abstract. The author discusses the German culture aesthetic foundations of the last third of the XVIIIth century by the example of J. G. Hamann and J. G. Herder's conceptions. Hamann's creativity is important because the German theorist analyzed the problems of intuition as the integral element of a truly creative person. Herder, in turn, was one of the first in Germany who undertook the attempt to place folk art into the centre of aesthetic systems, considered Shakespeare's works in that context, and continued Hamann's work, referring to emotional principles in artistic creativity and national traditions of culture.
