Abstract. The author considers Hegel's life and creative work milestones and concludes that the thinker's significance is deeper than the creation of dialectical method and philosophical knowledge system. Assuming spirit as the subject of world history, Hegel showed that it became purposive activity, in other words, culture, in the course of its understanding.
