Abstract. The authors consider the origin of one of the Dagestani mini ethnic groups - the Mitagi people, living near the ancient city of Derbent, tell that the appearance of Mitagi village is connected with the construction of the Sassanids' defensive wall around Derbent, present various historical sources data, toponymic and linguistic facts that affirm the Iranian origin of the Mitagi people, and mention the community of the Persian substrate in villages along the mountain wall.
