Abstract. The author presents the brief analysis of the notion absurd in its social-cultural context, where it is used by youth subcultures and movements as end in itself, substantiates both negative and positive aspects of this phenomenon, and reveals the reasons of its popularization among the younger generation of people under the influence of the philosophy of existentialism, in particular the idea of ??the absurdity of the world.
