Abstract. The authors review one of the most impressive recent publications in native and foreign agrarian historiography - S. A. Esikov' monograph devoted to the Russian village during NEP, and emphasize the author's contribution to the development of the key problems of the agrarian history of Russia in the first half of the ХХth century by the materials of Central Black Earth region: peasant farms under the conditions of NEP, the reasons of Stalin's collectivization, alternatives to Stalinism, etc.
