Abstract. The author analyzes the category of despair - one of the most important in the Christian-existentialist philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard, pays special attention to the philosopher's ideas about the origins of sickness unto death and its consequences, and considers the varieties of despair (despair-weakness and despair-challenge) and the conditions of the spiritual recovery of the man, who has lost connection with the God.
